City Island

After regaining her bearings, Edith took note of her surroundings. She was at the corner of City Island Avenue and Fordham Street. Two four-way cluster traffic signals hung over the intersection, and Edith noticed a laundromat to her immediate left, and a diner across the street.

Edith didn't know it, but she had been teleported to City Island, outside of the Bronx in New York City. The first thing Edith would envision when someone mentioned New York were towering skyscrapers, busy streets, and an overwhelming presence that seemed to fill her with energy instantaneously. City Island, though, looked like a quiet, cozy small town where people leave their front doors unlocked at night, and the worst crime is someone's kid accidentally breaking a neighbor's window with a tossed or hit baseball.

In the meantime, Edith needed to sort out where she was before figuring out the why. All she had with her were the clothes on her back and her wallet. Her other belongings were still in her hotel room thousands of miles away in Montana.

1. Edith seeks out the nearest police officer for assistance.
2. Edith suddenly feels hunger, and walks across the street to the diner.
3. Edith finds the nearest phone. She calls Bill and Alice, who are still back in Miles City.
4. Edith calls her brother Jim, who is still down in Fort Stockton, Texas.
5. Overcome by madness, Edith begins pricing local homes for sale, having decided she was destined to remain here.
