Strawberry Hills Forever

Horsehockey V - Episode 975

Having little else on her agenda in a small town, Edith woke up early one morning and decided to head to the Strawberry Hills Recreation Area on U.S. 12, just east of Miles City.

Edith was rather unprepared for this trip, as she had brought next to nothing that any experienced hiker would have had with them, and she had intentionally left her cell phone behind in her hotel room. Since she now believed that her friends Bill and Alice weren't in any rush to spend time with her, Edith really didn't feel that today would be any different.

How wrong she would be.

Bill and Alice woke up that day feeling remorseful that they had been neglecting Edith, so they decided to make plans with her. They called Edith's phone around 9:30, just moments after Edith had left her hotel room to go explore the Strawberry Hills alone.

"Huh," Bill mused as his call went straight to voicemail. "She's not answering."
"Give her time," Alice urged. "She's probably in the shower, or having breakfast right now."

An hour and a half later, Alice tried calling Edith, only to be directed straight to her voicemail box. Alice and Bill would try texting Edith a few times over the next couple of hours. No response. They would both try calling Edith back twice more. Nothing but a rapidly filling voicemail account.

It was now approaching three in the afternoon. Bill and Alice had been up for close to six hours now, and they had wasted much of the day trying to call Edith, who appeared to be now ignoring their calls and message. Kind of like the reception the newly engaged couple had been giving her since she arrived in Montana.

  1. Bill and Alice, fearing the worse, rush to Edith's hotel room.
  2. Bill and Alice say the hell with it, and move on with their lives. Edith leaves town the next morning. They never speak to one another again.
  3. Edith returns to the hotel around 4:30 in the afternoon. She encounters a phone with numerous messages, ranging from cheerful to distressed.
  4. Edith falls into a ravine in the recreation park and is injured badly enough that she can't climb out.
