Reconciliation

As Edith was preparing to pack her things and check out of the hotel, there was a knock on her door. Edith was not anticipating visitors, so the sudden intrusion scared her enough that she spilled most of the contents out of her suitcase and onto the bed and carpeted floor.

Flustered, Edith nervously looks back and forth between her belongings and the door leading to the hallway, unable to decide what to attend to at first. After a tense few seconds, she decided that she had better check who was knocking on her door.

"Oh!" a surprised Edith exclaims after she opens the door to find her friends Bill and Alice.

Earlier in the week, Edith had flown from California to Miles City to meet with her old friends Bill and Alice, who had recently gotten engaged. Their engagement seemed to turn Edith into a fifth wheel, as they had been paying more attention to one another instead of their old friend who they hadn't seen in a couple of years. Since Edith's arrival, the intrepid trio had spent maybe two or three hours catching up and reminiscing. The rest of the time, Bill and Alice were too absorbed in one another, leading Edith to wander around town by herself.

Miles City had less than ten thousand people, and Edith could only revisit the same restaurants and limited shopping opportunities so many times before she said enough's enough.

"Edith!" Alice exclaimed. "Were you going somewhere?"
"Ummm...maybe?" Edith sheepishly replied, nervously looking back at her suitcase, which still lie open at the foot of the bed, surrounded by spilled clothing and other personal effects.
"Look, we both should apologize to you," Bill said. "We've been very selfish since you flew up. And we'd be very upset if you went home early. We both were looking forward to your visit, so can we make it up to you?"

Edith doesn't answer right away...

1. "Yes!" Edith finally exclaims.
2. "How?" Edith asks.
3. "I'm sorry, but I have a plane to catch," Edith finally answers.
4. At this time back in Fort Stockton...
