Standing to the side is an exceptionally large jellybean in the garb of a 16th century samurai, head--or at the last the end with eyes--bowed respectfully. Lost in his own thoughts, Paco prays for the souls of the departed. On the third floor of the book depository across the street, Skip Hitler peers through the sights of a Mannlicher-Carcano M91/38 Fucile Corto; he drops the crosshairs on the head of his target. "One shot. Payback for everything, Paco," he whispers. "One shot." His finger slowly squeezes on the trigger. The report, when it finally comes, is as much a surprise to Skip as it is to the funeralgoers. The jellybean falls, with a spray of lime green painting the faces of the mourners a few yards away. Several secret service agents push the people out of the way and bear others to the ground, shielding them with their bodies. "Payback," Skip says.
