"Even if someone is behind these portals and can direct where they appear, there's no way that they could know that we were here or that we were talking about portals." As McClane speaks, Leary is using the camera on his cellphone to photgraph the portal.

"We can discuss that later," Dupris says. "If we're going to learn more about it, then we need to go through it before it disappears."

"Not all of us," McClane says. "At least one of us should remain behind, just in case whoever enters it runs into trouble. And whoever goes should be sure to take their passport, credit cards and phone with them. We don't want to imitate Edith, and be stranded."

"My passport is in my room," Leary says.

"And by the time you can get it the portal might have gone," Dupris says. "But I have mine in my pocket, along with a credit card. I don't have my phone with me, though. Give me yours, Leary." Leary doesn't argue but hands it over.

1. Dupris steps through the portal. Five minutes later, McClane's phone rings. It's Dupris, reporting in.
2. Dupris steps through the portal. He is never heard of again.
3. Dupris steps through the portal. We switch to his POV.
4. Before Dupris can step through, the portal vanishes.
