We Close at Eleven.

Horsehockey V - Episode 315

Scott explained, "Hey, Sir Fred, please, please calm down. We are sticking around here until we can figure things out. We don't want to cause any problems. The good thing is that it is Friday night, we have a weekend coming up, so we at least have a couple of days."

One the baristas said, "We close at eleven tonight. The only reason that we stay open that late is that it is Friday. We get good business from the crowd that comes in after the high school basketball game. And you two, Sir, Ma'am, I am going to need you to check those weapons or leave the premises. I know that this little town isn't Omaha, but this isn't the wild west, either."

Astra started to say, "Look, servant, do you know who I am?" But was stopped short by a wide-eyed look and short shake of the head from Fred." Fred said, "Of course. People get excited, someone has had a little too much in the way of strong spirits, and fights break out. I understand." He handed a sword to the barista. The second barista said, "Damn, that is one cool looking sword. Where did you get it?"

"My father gave it to me as a birthday gift," Fred replied. Astra handed in her weapons to the second barista and took a seat by a table.

Scott then spoke up. "Um, Larry, is there any way that we can stay overnight? We are a little worried about leaving."

The first barista replied, "No can do, Scott. Management would be P.O'ed at me if I did that and besides, I gotta take the early shift tomorrow. What's the big deal anyway? Nothing ever happens here."

Scott then replied, "Well, it is funny, but that is exactly why I want to stay here. I have had some really weird experiences when I go near roads and staircases."

The other barista chimed in, "Why don'tcha all get some food before the crowd from the game comes in? Sometimes problems don't look as bad when your stomach is full."

"That's not a bad idea, Lynne. I will have a cappuccino and blueberry scone. And I will spot Fred and Astra here. They just got in from out of town and probably haven't had time to hit the ATM."

After talking with Larry and Lynne, a few ideas were aired. There was a hotel about a ten minute drive away. The could also try their luck with the upper floors of the old Citizen's Bank across the street - the first floor was being used by a drug store and florist shop, but the rest were probably either used as storage or not in use. There was a Sinclair gas station within walking distance that could provide showers and toilet facilities. If they had sleeping bags, they could camp outside, but it might get a little cold tonight.

  1. The group discusses what to do tonight.
  2. Someone turns on the radio, hoping to pick up the broadcast of the game.
